The collection consists of 27 boxes of writings, sketches, analyses, and other personal and unpublished papers, along with some photos and videocassettes from the career of music theorist and educator Allen Forte. An additional donation in the summer of 2015 added two boxes of sound and video recordings from Madeleine Forte, as well as Allen Forte's doctoral cap, gown, and hood for the honorary doctorate he received from Eastman School of Music in 1978.

Madeleine Forte was born on September 20, 1938 in Orléansville (present-day Chlef), Algeria. After initial study on the piano with her aunt, she studied with Alfred Cortot and Wilhelm Kempff, and earned an artist diploma and a musicology diploma from the École Normale de Musique in Paris studying with Norbert Dufourcq, as well an artist diploma from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (Uniwersytet Muzyczny Fryderyka Chopina), studying with Zbigniew Drzewiecki.
